At Heidelberg Castle visitors can have themselves transported back to the age of the Renaissance this year.  The State Palaces and Gardens (SPG) are commemorating Heidelberg's last knight, Friedrich IV of the Palatinate, who died 400 years ago, with special guided tours and events. – At Favorite Palace (in Rastatt-Förch) the focus is on early Dresden china.  The fragile treasures were already expensive, rare treasures and technical innovations as well at the time of the Margravine of Baden Sibylla Augusta. – Since June 14 the Stuttgart Staatsgalerie has had 14 sculptures on exhibit, which the King of Württemberg Wilhelm I had produced by young artists for Rosenstein Palace.  In the old Column Hall (Säulensaal), the group of figures can be viewed on permanent loan from the SPG. – In addition to other interesting topics, the summer issue also provides tips on events.

It is a vividly portrayed double anniversary: 300 years of the "porcelain palace" Favorite and 300 years of European porcelain.  Photographer Martine Beck Coppola has brilliantly captured the showpieces and the setting - the palace of Margravine Sibylla Augusta of Baden-Baden in Rastatt-Förch - with the camera.  Schlösser Magazine shows several of the photographs, completed with fascinating information provided by the responsible curator Dr. Ulrike Grimm.

The Renaissance in Weikersheim, the Prince Bishops of Speyer in Bruchsal Palace, sculptures by the court sculptor of the Electoral Palatinate Verschaffelt in Schwetzingen - these are some of the other main topics covered.  In addition, the new issue also contains tips on many interesting events.

Connections befitting to one's social position were considered a matter of course in noble society. Dowry lists from the 19th century provide information on the "appointment" of four Kirchheim princesses, for whom a more or less wealth husband was found.  The trend today: a wedding at the palace.

Brides and grooms in the palace courtyard or in the chapel have meanwhile become a familiar sight.  Young people in monasteries and palaces are soon to become a common scene.  The State Palaces and Gardens have optimized their proven program for school classes, i.e. they have revised and redesigned it.  "Lehrreich" (Instructive) enables history to be experienced "up close and personal" by children and teenagers.

The refurnishing of the Beletage (principle floor) at Bruchsal Palace is currently one of the most important building and restoration projects of the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg.  The room structure of the rooms of state will be restored over the next several years.  The existing room appointments from the age of the Prince Bishops of Speyer, valuable tapestries and splendid furniture can then be presented in the original context.

The new issue presents two personalities - the last court painter of Baden-Baden Joseph Wolfgang Hauwiller and the Princess of Württemberg Sophie Dorothee, who later became Czarina Maria Feodorowna.  We describe two journeys of noblewomen, who travelled to their royal husband, and have put together a related contest for our readers.  And there are also many more interesting topics to choose from.

Immerse yourself in the royal cultivated living of the 19th century: The "Olga Album" makes it possible.  A wine-red cassette contains 86 watercolors and gouache paintings with interior views of residential and representation rooms of the Queen of Württemberg Olga.  These include views from the New Palace (Neues Schloss) in Stuttgart.

In keeping with the summer season, gardens also play an important role in the new issue of Schlösser.  The Leonberg Bitter Orange Garden (Pomeranzengarten) was planted 400 years ago.  Herbs and medicinal plants were also grown here.  The Lilly played a special role in historical gardens.  Magnificent varieties are blooming this summer on the terrace of Weikersheim Palace.  In addition, the magazine also offers interesting reading material.  Among other things, we describe the life of Ottheinrich of the Palatinate, the Renaissance sovereign, who lived at Heidelberg Castle.
